In 2007, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He would use insulin pumps and get regular tests to monitor his blood glucose levels before games.

He also made some major lifestyle changes, especially in his diet. As he got older, he became a lot wiser with his food choices.

At the same time, he went on to raise awareness for men’s health. After briefly retiring from the game, he went on to become a sportscaster.

However, he returned for another season to play for the Miami Dolphins.

Known for her role as the straight-talking Suzanne Sugarbaker in “Designing Women,” Delta Burke spreads awareness about diabetes and how to manage it.

Proper diet and increased physical activity are vital, but medication can also be a big help.

Despite being diagnosed with diabetes, Burke’s career has continued. She co-starred in the sitcom DAG in the early 2000s and lost weight for the role.

She later starred in the ABC comedy pilot “Counter Culture,” but the show’s production was suspended after she suffered a fall on the set.

As of 2017, Burke and her husband own an antique shop in Collins, Mississippi. This may be the reason why her body has adjusted to her diabetes and a doctor is helping her to make the most informed decisions possible.
